This painting depicts a back alley in the downtown eastside in Vancouver on an evening when a contemporary dance performance was being held in a rented studio with access from the alley. The performance had been postponed several times because of the pandemic and the scene of the alley in an underprivileged part of town seemed to reflect the struggle that artists face and the narrow and challenging path to a career in the arts.
